I had a lovely Mother's Day. K was excited to give me the photo card that JW had made and he had signed. So excited that even though JW told him to wait until Sunday, K kept trying to secretly show it to me on Friday and Saturday. K and X had each made a picture at school, with a handprint for K and footprints for X. After a morning spent hanging out in the backyard with the little girl next door, we went for a family hike. ("Hike" is a little generous. More like a walk in the woods.) We had to coax K out from under the bed because he was scared of bears, but he ended up having a good time. He even laughed, instead of glowering like I expected, when I said my Mother's Day wish was for us all to get eaten by bears. X was fussy at bedtime, so I took him for a walk around the neighborhood. He pointed up to the tops of the trees, and touched the tree trunks and laughed when I lifted him up to touch the leaves. He looked up and pointed at the power lines and the squirrels. It's been a long time since I walked around and just looked at things.
